Draperies vs Curtains

Is there a difference between draperies and curtains? Absolutely! The difference is in how they are made and how they are hung. For starters, draperies are lined and curtains are not.

Draperies, generally speaking are formal soft window treatments, made with pleats and hung with drapery hooks on to rods. They can be operated by hand or with a cord/wand or motorized traverse rod.

Curtains, are usually informal soft window coverings gathered or shirred onto a rod. They can also have headings (like tab-tops) that are attached to a rod and operated by hand.

Both curtains and draperies can be tied back or used as stationary window treatments.
